Wrightslaw From Emotions to Advocacy Conference
, a Wrightslaw training program featuring Pat Howey, is being sponsored by the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Network of Southern California and the State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Los Angeles Office.

Program Description


In From Emotions to Advocacy training programs (one day, 6 hours), advocate Pat Howey teaches you how to take an active role in managing your child's special education, the gentle art of disagreeing, and how to maintain healthy working relationships with the school.

You will learn:

  • how to assess your child's strengths and needs
  • how to prepare a Parent Report for the IEP Team
  • how to build healthy working relationships with school personnel
  • how to document information that may prevent or resolve disputes
  • how to participate as an equal member of your child's IEP Team

Wrightslaw programs are designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, health care providers, advocates and attorneys who represent children with disabilities regarding special education. The program is not disability specific.

Your registration fee includes Continental breakfast, boxed lunch, cookies, soft drinks, tea and coffee all day,Vendor Fair, a deluxe Wrightslaw highlighter pen, and a copy of Wrightslaw: From Emotions to Advocacy, 2nd Edition.

Vendor Information: $80 for Non-Profit and $100 for For Profit. Registration includes full table, lunches, drinks, snacks for two people and inclusion in the conference printed materials. Download the vendor registration form.

Credits: 0.6 CEUs (continuing education units) have been approved for this conference. The units are provided by the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Education. They provide credit for practicing teachers and CEU's for a variety of professionals who need to document their professional development hours. There is an additional $24 fee. Payment is due after the conference through the UMKC online portal.

Special Accommodations: A Spanish language translator will be on the premises. Please make requests for all reasonable disability related accommodations by August 17, 2018. All special food requests must be made by September 3, 2018.

Regional Center: Your Regional Center may fund this conference if requested. Use vendor number PD3672.

Refund Policy: Cancellations or refund requests received by August 31, 2018 will be honored less $30 and, thereafter, on a case by case basis, except in the case of grants. In lieu of a refund, substitutions are permitted with advance notice.

Child Care: Childcare will not be provided.
