From Emotions to Advocacy, a Wrightslaw training program with Pat Howey, is being sponsored by Friendship Community Care.

Program Description

In From Emotions to Advocacy training programs (one day, 6 hours), parent advocate Pat Howey teaches you how to take an active role in managing your child's special education, the gentle art of disagreeing, and how to maintain healthy working relationships with the school.

You will learn:

  • how to assess your child's strengths and needs
  • how to prepare a Parent Report for the IEP team
  • how build healthy working relationships with school personnel
  • how document information that may prevent or resolve disputes
  • how to participate as an equal member of your child's IEP team

Wrightslaw programs are designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, health care providers, advocates and attorneys who represent children with disabilities regarding special education. The program is not disability specific.

Directions to MiChild Enrichment Center

From West: (Oklahoma City Area)
Go East on I-40 for about 260 miles, then take exit #81(AR-7) when nearing Russellville
When off the exit turn Right onto North Arkansas Ave.
Take a Left onto Parkway and about half a mile down take a Left onto Knoxville Ave.
Next take a Right on to Russell Rd.

From North: (Jefferson, MO)
Find I-44 West, then take exit 82A onto US-65 South and go for about 77 miles
Take a hard Right on to AR-7 (East Stephenson) then turn Left on AR-125 (East O St.). After that take a Right on North Frankfort Ave, then Left onto East J St. short after take a Right on North Knoxville (there you will see Friendship Community Care Admin. Building). After Knoxville turn Left onto Russell Rd.

From South: (Dallas Area)
You want to get onto I-430 North then take exit # 13B to I-40 West (toward Fort Smith)
After about 65 miles take exit 84 toward Russellville. Take a Left on AR-331 then a Right on Main St. (US-64) after about a half a mile turn Right on Prairie Grv. (AR-326) then you will take a Left onto Russell Rd.

From East: (Atlanta Area)
Get on I-440 West going towards Memphis then you will be looking for I-40 West when on I-40 West you will go about 410 miles, find exit 84 toward Russellville. Off the exit take a Right on Main St. (US-64) after about a half a mile turn Right on Prairie Grv. (AR-326) then you will take a Left onto Russell Rd.
