Special Education Law & Advocacy Training, a Wrightslaw training program with Wayne Steedman, Esq. and Pat Howey, is being provided by Texas Parent to Parent in collaboration with The Autism Society of Greater Austin (ASGA) & The Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT). This program will precede the 2nd Annual Texas Parent to Parent Conference.

Program Description

This full day special education law and advocacy program will focus on four areas:

  • Special education law, rights and responsibilities
  • Tests and measurements to measure progress & regression
  • SMART IEPs
  • Introduction to tactics & strategies for effective advocacy

Wrightslaw programs are designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, health care providers, advocates and attorneys who represent children with disabilities regarding special education. The program is not disability specific.

Directions

St. Edward’s University's Ragsdale Center is located at 3001 South Congress Ave. in Austin, Texas.

From I-35: From Southbound I-35 take the Woodward St. exit. From Northbound I-35 exit Ben White and remain on the access road until you reach Woodward St. Head west and in a short distance you will see the campus on the right. There are two entrances from Woodward, the first is Theatre Pass and the second is Andre Drive. Turn right on either entrance and you have arrived.

From Mopac/Ben White: From southbound Mopac exit Loop 360 and stay on it when it changes to Hwy 71 East. Exit So. Congress Ave. Turn left onto Congress and continue past Woodward to the main campus entrance which is on the right at 3001 S. Congress.
