If your child has an IEP in high school, encourage her to actively participate in IEP team meetings.
After high school, your child will need to advocate for herself when public school IEPs end. Encourage her to build self-awareness skills to help plan for the future.
The better she understands her disability, needs, and rights, the easier self-advocating will become.
In this issue of the Special Ed Advocate we will introduce you to some outstanding self-advocates. You'll find information and resources for your child about self-advocacy.
Please don't hesitate to forward this series to other friends, families, or colleagues.
