Takes First Steps Toward Takeover Authority
Governor
Tim Pawlenty has announced that he will ask the legislature to give
the state authority to take over failing schools and districts.
In response, Education Commissioner Cheri Yecke said she will appoint
a task force to develop a takeover plan for the legislature to consider
this year. Yecke said her conception of such a plan would be one that
included a continuum of corrective measures that would be tried before
an actual takeover, but that it would be up to the legislature to set
the parameters of the policy.
