Margaret: Can the school pull in teachers that do not work with our student or guidance counselors to sit in as the General Education representative? At our last IEP meeting a guidance counselor who has never worked with our student sat in as the Gen Ed Rep, left half way through meeting, and another guidance counselor who has never met our student came in for rest of meeting. I’m looking for correct wording to keep this from happening again.
Unfortunately the school can do this and does do this often. It is frustrating. The intent of the regular ed teacher to be at this meeting is their input. If the proxy brings the actual input of the teacher that would be better than nothing but if they are just sitting there and saying nothing I think you can request the actual teacher show up or at least the information gets relayed at the meeting.
