Kathy: We would like our daughter to stay in school until age 22 and work as part of the transition program, BUT NOT attend any classes in the school. Much of her stress and anxiety comes from school and this spring, she will have all her classes required for graduation. The school is saying she MUST attend school and classes, if she is to remain in the transition program until age 22. I thought I had heard of legal ruling (Megan’s Law?) that said kids could work outside the school and not take classes. Anybody familiar with this or do anything similar? Thank you.
What you are describing is allowed in some states for students with disabilities & for some students in vocational programs. Your state parent training & information project can assist you in finding out the rules on this in your state. http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center
