Jocelin: What protections do special education teachers have in regards to being assaulted by an emotionally disturbed child who is in an Intensive Specialized Academic Instruction Setting?
The school district is saying that this behavior is part of the job.
As Morning says, schools can & often do provide support & training to staff. Your state education agency may have information & resources available to help educators & schools with this.
Do you want to stay in a school district that does not offer you the support, training or even guidance? The question comes back to you. I don’t think this situation will change. Of course, I have seen some teachers and administrators “get hurt” and then the child is sent to the ER and more structured services are activated through state agencies. Do you get my point? Sometimes it is a game–and everyone loses–especially the students.
