Jackie: I live in CA and my daughter is 4 years old. We attend speech at our designated school. During the summer break, I was not notified by the district that they changed her speech teacher. She has been attending speech for 1 year and during this time I have always been in her sessions inside the classroom with other students. Since they got the new teacher, the new teacher said that I cannot attend her sessions. The teacher would be the one to take her to class and bring her back to me when my daughter’s session is completed. This is due to other students in the classroom. In the past, I have had no issues with any other teacher. The school has let me attend all her sessions. Pls help as I would want to be with my daughter in her 20 minute class sessions to see her progress.
I suppose one way around this would be to change her Preschool IEP so that her speech therapy would be individual. To do that, request a meeting. See if you can get your daughter’s doctor to attend, if only by phone, or at least write a letter to support your proposal that the services be provided individually.
Outline your arguments for why you need to be there. Perhaps, for example, because observing the interventions provided permits you to support those specific interventions with your child at home.
See if you can use the progress monitoring records to support your proposal.
