Section 504: WHAT TO DO WHEN A TEACHER DOESN’T WANT TO ACCOMMODATE?

Share

Cindy: This is my son’s 2nd year on a 504 (the ONLY 504 in this district???). We had issues last year but they seemed to get resolved once I explained my rights and my son’s rights. I am a special ed teacher in another district. We are having issues with his new reading teacher (who is a substitute while his regular teacher is coaching a sport). I am ready to leap and take action against the school. They need someone to let them know that a student’s needs should be met.

  1. If your son were on an IEP he would have protection under The IDEA and still have all the protection under 504. Throw in some S.M.A.R.T. IEP goals and all involved will better understand their role in meeting your son’s unique educational needs.
