Retention: CASE MANAGER WON’T ACCEPT CREDITS FROM PRIVATE SCHOOL

Share

May:  My son was transferred from private school to public school to be put into 10th grade.
We are in Florida and he was already held back. The high school believes his courses (from private) are lower level therefore a grade below.  My son is in English 2 Honors and passing, but the school wants him back in 9th grade repeating all his subjects from 9th grade. This is very upsetting to us because he is ill often and has a life threatening illness. School itself, especially math is a huge struggle for him and he typically has to repeat this anyway. How can I convince them to accept what they deem to see as a not matching credit?
Also we have an ESE case manager who is causing this unnecessary issue as well as jumping all over me regarding absences. She is also unqualified and was a math teacher. The guidance counselor was willing to accept credit and the case manager stepped in the way! I want to say “Your Fired”. Should I do this or wait until next year? Schools almost over

  1. Schools should have policies on accepting credits on transfer students. Find & study these to see if the campus is following them. If they are not, you can bring this to the principal. Districts should also have policy, procedures for appealing decisions above the principal.
