Chris: Originally eligible as a child with an emotional disturbance and ADHD, in each of the last two revaluations, the district has increased the severity of the disability. First, they added SLDs in 6 different areas and most recently, they changed to an intellectual disability. The child has consistently had a pretty low IQ (about 76) but math is markedly lower than other areas. Rather than increasing services and supports, they are lowering expectations. What can I do?
Legally they are to set high expectations. You should find assistance in pushing the school to meet their responsibility. Your state parent training & information center can assist you. http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center
