JoAnn: My child is in elementary school special education and in 1st grade. There are high school sped kids that come over from the high school campus to the elementary and are in the same sped time. I’m not comfortable with this, what can I do?

I can only imagine how the high school kid feels. i would immediately get together with the school on how to deal with this. This is unacceptable.
JoAnn –
This sounds very inappropriate – inappropriate for your son and inappropriate for these older students.
Many states regulate the make up of special education classes, including the age span of students in the same classroom. For example, here is Massachusetts, students in a single classroom cannot be more than three years apart in age.
I would suggest that you investigate whether your state has similar rules. Your local parent center can help you figure out if it does (http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center/).
If your state does have such a rule, you may want to bring the discrepancy to your district’s special education director.
