Brenda: I would like to know if the district agreed to pay for an IEE, do I have to go through a lawyer or advocate to speak with the doctor on my daughter’s behalf? The IEE has been completed and paid for by the district. I let my advocate go because we didn’t see eye to eye. The doctor is now saying she cannot speak with me and can only speak to an advocate or lawyer. Please help!
I have requested IEE’s in the past & have always been able to discuss any part of the evaluation with the evaluator. The schools always paid for the IEE’s & are required to at least consider the results. I am not sure what the problem is here.
Brenda, If the evaluator doesn’t want to discuss the evaluation with you, it may be because the parent-school situation is polarized. You may benefit by retaining and working with an advocate or an attorney.
A couple of ideas – contact the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates for a list of advocates & attorneys in your area: http://www.copaa.org
