Tim: I am a parent of a 7th grade student. She had adjustment difficulties in the beginning and was seen by the school counselor, then settled down.
She made honor roll for the first semester and won a city-wide spot on the “All City Orchestra”. She is doing well in all of her subjects.
I discovered that her science teacher placed my daughter in “modified curriculum” with other special education students in her classroom. She did so without my knowledge. The teacher grouped the special education students together in the classroom.
I wrote a letter to the teacher and she apologized to me. I was told the teacher would no longer give “modified curriculum” to my daughter.
I asked for “modified curriculum” to be removed from my daughter’s report cards. She has an A- with a comment “modified curriculum”. The Science teacher informed me that she can only remove the “modified curriculum” if she downgrades her grade 1-2 levels.
None of this makes any sense to me. Is your daughter on an IEP? if not the teacher really made a mistake. If she is on an IEP than you can make a change with the team or just move on from here.
Does your daughter have an IEP? You can check the district policy on providing “modified curriculum” & see if they followed it. The principal is the best one to ask about removing the comment from her records. Document your communications.
