Wendie: The last agreed upon IEP was signed in 2014. Services and goals have been presented in 2015 and 2016. Which goals can we report progress on..the last signed IEP goals in 2014 or the 2016 goals even through parents have not signed in agreement?
Wendie: The answer to your question depends on your state special ed regs. The federal regs do not require that parents sign that they agree with every IEP. The law does require parents to give their informed consent for the initial eval for special ed and the initial IEP.
Most states have parents sign IEPs but their signature simply indicates that they were present at the meeting(s), not that they agree.
Check your state special ed regs. You should find the answers in the CA regulations about IEPs or the “initial IEP.”
