Miryam: BY LAW, WHAT KIND OF TEST/ASSESSMENTS WE CAN REQUEST TO THE SCHOOL SYSTEM?
It might depend where you live. In my state, parents are not part of the process for choosing tests once the student is referred. Parents are part of the conversation when deciding whether additional assessments need to be given, but they do not take part in the discussion to choose specific tests. It’s up to the school members of the IEP te3am to choose assessments that will result in a comprehensive evaluation for all suspected areas of impairment.
When parents refer their child for an evaluation in my state (Wisconsin), the request needs to be put in writing and needs to include statements re: why the parent believes the child to have a disability and what special education services might be needed.
