Requirements on foreign language credits & any exceptions is a state decision. TX for example now has rules allowing this.
My high school child has dyslexia and is exempt from the foreign language requirement. In middle school, I discussed data and research concerning foreign language for dyslexic students with my specific child in mind. There was no need for my child, to take a foreign language as the focus was progress in encoding and decoding, etc. The middle school was very creative in offering other courses and learning opportuntieis instead of her taking a foreign language. She loved those courses and learning opportunities.
