Brandon: A Montessori school told us that our 5 year old daughter with a LD could not attend because they didn’t have the resources. This was on her first day of attendance. I’m ok with not sending her because it was only for 2 weeks but is there anything that we could do in this situation. I do not feel that they should be able to turn her away after 1 day.
I have a child who attends a private school and continues to get kicked out although she is at a healthy weight and has clearance by her medical doctor.
I have mostly questions as I have dealt with private and public schools. How was your child presented to the school during the admissions process? Did you have discussions about her LD, its presentations , etc. during the admissions process? What type of academic resources are required to help your child make progress? I always tell parents to go with the school that loves your child and wants to provide the resources and collaboration to ensure that your child is empowered. If the private school does not have the resources, MOVE ON–find a place where she can shine and gain confidence. Maybe, they will work with you BUT your child, depending on the LD, may need intensive remediation.
