Teresa: At the first of the school year, the school tried to aggressively push us to put my son on the alternate assessment path. We used a letter with statutes provided by Wrightslaw to keep him on diploma track. I have been contacted by a teacher who told me that the school is still planning on having a teacher with an FMD certification manage his special education case. She said that the teacher does not have a LBD certification. I want my son kept in the inclusive environment of the classroom. Is there a way to check a teacher’s certification in Kentucky? The teacher certifications are not listed on the school’s website. Is this legal to place a child who is considered a LBD with an FMD teacher? The school is planning on doing this behind our backs.
I would request in writing the exact certification of the teacher in question. Also is the requirement of what type of instruction listed in the IEP. This could help get what you want.
