Patsy: My son is 14yrs old and is on the spectrum and behavior problems. My question is how can the school keep him in the room when he does not want to be in it? If he is not in the room he is marked absent. I feel that if he is in school he should not be counted absent. I also feel the school should be resourcing ways to keep him in the classroom. Am I wrong in thinking that?
Addressing this is part of the school’s responsibility. You can request an IEP meeting to address this & any other concerns that you have. Your state parent training & information center can assist you. http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center
