IEP Meeting: TEACHER ATTENDANCE AT IEP FOR FORMER STUDENT

Share

Andrea:  I teach in California. Am I required to attend an IEP for a student I had last school year? The student has moved to another school, however, the parents have requested that the IEP team meet for their child’s annual meeting. Although I am no longer the teacher, am I required to attend since I had the student in my class last school year?

  1. I agree with Chuck. However, since the student attends a different school, it may be a NPS where there is no “general education” teacher to attend. The district may be asking you to attend so they have a “general education” teacher there who has knowledge of the student.

  2. No, unless CA, or district rules require this. You can possibly provide relevant info about the student by phone or in writing.
